Is it ok to drink green tea while nursing?

Question by farrowlani: Is it ok to drink green tea while nursing? Hi. I have a 5-month old, whom I am nursing. I was wondering if it is ok to drink green tea and if she might have any reactions to it. See, the green tea that my husband bought doesn't say anything about having caffiene or not. For the ingredients, it says, "green tea". Best answer:

a lot of women do drink tea or coffee when pregnant or nursing. they say the caffiene comes in trace amounts so its really nothing to be worried about. but i never drank tea espically because honestly im not sure what else could be in that bag. i dont know what processes they use to get the tea. i just never took the chance. best of luck and congrats! ^_^

I don't see why you can't. Tea has heaps of anti-oxidants in it and is great to drink. Also a small amount of caffeine is absolutely fine (1-2 cups a day of tea or coffee) so Green tea should be no exception. best of luck

Green tea has considerably less caffiene than ordinary tea, and it's almost the same as water in that it contains very little of anything that might cause any reactions. It's highly unlikely that the microscopic amount of caffiene getting through to your baby will make any difference to your baby's behaviour.
