Why can't they make a coke dispenser tea that actually tastes like tea?

Question by Allen: Why can't they make a coke dispenser tea that actually tastes like tea? You know when you go to a fast food restaurant or something, and they have the "tea" coming from the same dispensers as the coke and sprite? Why does it always taste like crap? Is it that hard to make an artificial tea? Best answer:

I'm not a tea drinker but I can appreciate that it takes a bit more work to make a great tea-like sun tea or special expensive mixes/tea leaves. I used to manage a store that did huge business with a pop machine in the back. We often got this complaint so we didn't sell much of the dispenser tea and therefore stopped offering it during the colder months. The syrup for any of these drinks is mass produced, bagged and boxed for easier shipping and handling in a store where the dispenser mixes the syrup base with a certain amount of water (and carbonation if needed-in the case of most of the offerings). I think any true tea lover would balk at the idea of their tea coming from a base mix-it's certainly not the way anyone makes it at home but for mass consumption this is what happens for good or for bad. It's a much easier alternative for restaurants. In my own situation we had so many complaints about the dispenser tea, we went to a heated water/ground mix which made people much much happier but it required way more work and in the end cost us too much to effectively make our money back so we had to go back to the boring mix. Ahh the drama of retail!!!
